Staff

All of our staff are trained in First Aid, CPR, Universal Precautions, and Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse. They also receive on-going training in several areas of early childhood development such as, guidance and discipline, developmentally appropriate practices, curriculum, and professionalism.

Guidance Policy

Our staff is qualified to handle behavior issues with redirection and open communication. We will use positive reinforcement to correct negative behavior and time-outs will be used at a minimum for poor behavior. We will work closely with parents to find a viable solution if inappropriate behavior continues. Corporal punishment is a form of discipline that is inappropriate and will never occur at Ankeny Christian Childcare Center.

Program Description

Infant-Our primary focus is meeting the basic needs of infants, however, we also focus on their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development, in a safe environment full of exploration.

Toddler-Toddlers are encouraged to participate in a daily routine outlined specifically for them through our curriculum. Each aspect of the curriculum encourages specific developmental areas, such as large motor, sensory, and verbal skills.

Twos-This curriculum is designed to give the children structured freedom to explore their potential as individuals. At this age, toilet training becomes a part of the two-year old’s daily life.

Pre-School Age-Our pre-school curriculum is integrated into our daily schedule. This child-centered curriculum focuses on child and teacher initiated activities through dramatic play, art, sensory, reading, and language arts, music, manipulatives, and large motor.

Pre-Kindergarten-This is a back-to-basics learning environment in which pre-reading, pre-math, and pre-writing skills are emphasized.

School-Age-Children have already had a full day of school; the after school program is designed to have a relaxed atmosphere, in which the children are able to learn, create, and socialize at their own pace.
