Mission Opportunities Hunger Hike Hunger Hike is a Des Moines Metro wide "hike" held each fall to raise money for the needy in the area. Each year, we at ACC have a "Shoe Walk" during the church service where the children pass around shoes and collect funds from those not participating in the actual walk. For several years, ACC has been awarded a certificate for donating the most money to this large event.
TAKE (The Ankeny Klothing Exchange) This mission project is a local facility that distributes donated clothing to anyone in need. Although the hours are limited to availability of volunteers, the facility is always open through the Ankeny Police Department in cases of emergency. We assist this mission by helping to pay their cash rent. There is also an annual pancake breakfast to raise funds in which we volunteer. In addition, many church members donate clothing and food items.
ACCESS (Abused Women, Children & Men) ACCESS provides a secret, safe place for the abused in need of shelter. It provides personal care, children's activities, household items and cash for its clients, and is located in Ames, IA, serving Polk and Story counties. We provide between 60 and 70 handmade tote bags per year that church individuals have filled with items from a list of needed supplies.
Fresh Start - School Supplies We donate a variety of school supplies through a local organization called Fresh Start.
Quilt Ministries More than 250 quilts have been distributed to the homeless, On With Life fund. Church members wield needles and thimbles to make quilts out of donated scraps and turn out functional works of art.
Christmas Giving Several opportunities to give hats/mittens/gift baskets to the needy are shared in the congregation.
